Massage is a therapeutic approach to healing that applies a variety of stokes to the soft-tissue structure on the human body. Some stokes are long and soothing to reduce stress and tension held in the body. Other techniques, like deep tissue massage, are very helpful in reducing pain and deeper muscle tension. Massage can help the body remove toxins, deliver nutrients to tissue and cells more efficiently, and recover from strains and trauma more quickly.
Therapeutic massage has many physical, mental, and emotional therapeutic benefits. It encourages well-being and optimum functioning by improving circulation, improving the mobility of joints and promoting relaxation. Blood and lymph circulation are also increased due to the mechanical hand movements applied during massage. Increased circulation helps the body remove toxins more efficiently in addition to helping nutrients reach their target cells in the body.
Massage also improves range of motion in the joints as well as overall mobility. Friction strokes are extremely effective in breaking down adhesions, particularly following sprains, fractures, or other injuries where scar tissue may form.
Massage promotes relaxation through the release of endorphins and enkaphalins. These neurochemicals are dubbed "the body's natural opiates", or painkillers, due to their ability to induce relaxation and reduce pain. While stress has been shown to impair the functioning of the immune system making us more susceptible to disease, massage can alleviate and counteract its damaging effects.
Regular therapeutic massage can rid you body of life's every day stresses, reduce muscle pain, help alleviate the discomfort of certain ailments, or just help restore balance to your body and mind, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and helping you maintain a life of wellness and good health.
More people are turning to therapeutic massage treatment to provide relaxation, relieve tension associated with the daily stresses of their busy lives, or simply to help maintain good health and achieve a balanced lifestyle of wellness.
Research has shown that massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress levels and reduces recovery time in many medical conditions. It can also help with depression and anxiety, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma and bronchitis, circulatory problems, insomnia, sports injuries, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and musculo-skeletal disorders.
